Course Description

This course introduces the attendees to a practical process for establishing and tailoring a software measurement and analysis program that focuses on their goals and information needs. It addresses all of the requirements of the CMMI-SW for Measurement and Analysis. The objective of this course is to provide a practical, step-by-step, start-to-finish process of “how to” select, design and implement measures. It outlines a cookbook method that attendees can use to simplify the journey from software measurement concept to analysis to delivered information. It also provides examples of useful measures for all aspects of software development and use.

Who Should Attend?

This course is for Measurement Analysts who are responsible for designing and implementing software measurement and analysis. This includes Software Development and Test Managers and Engineers who want better information upon which to base their software product, project and process decisions. It is also useful for Software Quality and Process Managers and Specialists who want qualitative and quantitative information to support their audits and assessments and to help identify process improvement opportunities. This is a course for either the novice or the advanced practitioner. Prior experience with designing or collecting measures is a plus, but it not required. An understanding of the basic software development process would be helpful.

 
  
Format

This course is 2 days of lecture and individual and group workshops. Information and skills taught in this course are presented in an interactive format. Real world examples are utilized to make the information relevant. Throughout this course, learned skills are practiced using exercises based on real-world measures and on the current information needs of the attendees. It includes measures recommended by the CMMI-SW. The emphasis is on techniques that allow attendees to transition the skills learned in this workshop to their own work environments.
